🩷 Health Screening
It is important that people with a learning disability are able to access health screening.
Screening can help find some health problems early, before you have symptoms.
Depending on your age and circumstances, this may include:

🩷 Breast Screening
Who is it for?
Breast screening is offered to women from 50 until their 71st birthday.
You will usually be invited every 3 years.
If you are aged 71 or over, you can still have breast screening every 3 years, but you need to contact your local breast screening service to arrange it.
What happens?
You will be invited to a breast screening appointment.
The test is called a mammogram.
A mammogram is an X-ray of your breasts.
The test only takes a few minutes.
Where?
Your invitation will tell you where your appointment will be.
It may be at a hospital or a mobile breast screening unit.
Remember
If you notice a change in your breast, do not wait for your screening appointment.

🩺 Cervical Screening
Who is it for?
Cervical screening is for women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64.
You are normally invited every 5 years.
Cervical screening used to be called a smear test.
What happens?
A nurse or doctor takes a small sample from your cervix.
The sample is checked for HPV.
HPV can cause changes to the cells of the cervix.
Finding these changes early can help prevent cervical cancer.

💩 Bowel Cancer Screening
Who is it for?
Bowel cancer screening is offered to people aged 50 to 74.
You will normally be sent a test every 2 years.
What happens?
You will receive a bowel screening test kit through the post.
The test is done at home.
You use the kit to collect a small sample of poo.
You then send the sample back to the NHS using the instructions that come with the kit.
The test looks for small amounts of blood in your poo.
